In 2014, Angus Pauley, Marlborough Boys’ College head boy, was running late to school, and his mom had to drive him so he could make it on time. As they were driving over a local bridge, Pauley saw something in the water bobbing up and down. He asked his mom to pull over, and they got out to see what it was – it was a little girl!
Pauley immediately recognized that she was in trouble. He called down to the girl to see if she was okay – she replied that she wanted her mom. The girl had been trapped in the raging Taylor River when she was walking to school. He stripped off his clothes (to his underwear) and jumped into the water to help! Jeremy McKenzie jumped in the water too.
Happily, the 12-year old girl was rescued and reunited with her grateful family. Thank goodness we still have heroes living with us. Share away, people.
