Eight-year-old Tryson Smallegan absolutely loves hockey but had to stop playing because he lost his eyesight.

He was born with an arachnoid cyst on his brain and even went through a craniotomy.

“It all started for him soon after he was born,” Tryson’s mom, Hannah, told WZZM . “He had four surgeries before he was six months old.”

For a while, the little boy lived a normal life until early 2017. That’s when his eyesight began to fail him. “His teacher called me the first day after Christmas break ended and said Tryson kept running into things in class, and that wasn’t like him,” Hannah explained.

After going to the doctor, the family found out there was pressure building on his optic nerves. Sadly, the surgery failed and the little boy was legally blind.

Hannah and her husband had thought her son would never be able to play hockey ever again but all of that changed thanks to some very special people.

A special puck was given to Tryson so that he would finally be able to get back on the ice. This rattling puck is larger, made of metal, and has ball bearings inside so a blind player can hear it coming.

Another player , named Bradley, even volunteered to use his voice to help Tryson while he’s playing so the little boy knows where to go.
