The One Rule Meghan Markle Will Struggle With as a Royal

This is going to completely change her

We all know Meghan Markle for voicing her political opinion.

She is a Noam Chomsky devotee and anti-Brexit protester.

However, voicing these views will probably have to come to an end for the newlywed, former actress. Since the 17th century the royal protocol dictates the British monarchy is forbidden from expressing political opinion. It is followed so strictly that when Queen Elizabeth said people should “think very carefully about the future” before the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, she was accused of being in breach. Markle has already given up her career as an actress to be a royal, this will be another part of herself she will be sacrificing. In just 2016, we saw Markle on The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore declare she would move to Canada if a “misogynistic” Donald Trump was elected president.

University of Paris British history professor Ophelie Simeon told France 24 that no member of the royal family can voice their political opinions publicly:

“She is definitely political, but as the newest member of the royal family I think she will use her charity work to channel her political side. “I think it will be more appropriate as far as protocol is concerned.”

However, it can’t be denied the aptly named “Awesome Foursome” (Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) have begun to redefine decades of royal tradition. It was only a few weeks ago we saw Markle walk down the aisle by herself in a feminist statement, after her father was unable to attend the wedding.

She was then met by Prince Charles towards the end. Leading the break with royal precedent, Lady Diana Spencer did not promise to obey Prince Charles. This was then followed by Middleton and of course, Markle. We do hope we don't lose too much OG Markle because she was definitely a good one.
