Premier Lacrosse League announces quarantined event

Albany Times Union

The Premier Lacrosse League announced this morning it will hold a three-week, fully-quarantined event without fans that will begin on July 25 in lieu of a full regular season because of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, PLL co-founder Paul Rabil did not say during his appearance on The Today Show at what site the 20-game event will be held. NBC Sports is a television partner of the PLL.

The PLL was supposed to come to the University at Albany's Casey Stadium on Aug. 14 and 15 as part of its touring schedule that would have visited 15 cities.

It was unclear whether UAlbany could be a candidate to host the quarantined event, at which players will be tested for COVID-19 before, when they arrive and during the tournament, according to Rabil.

Inside Lacrosse, citing sources, reported IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. and the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey are among sites being considered.

Reached by phone, Rabil said he didn't immediately have time to talk because he was between TV appearances.

The PLL, entering its second season, came to Casey Stadium last year and drew a combined crowd of 12,522 over two days.
