Some acts of kindness usually happen when we least expect them but when we are most in need. Most of the time we come across challenges, and we feel we may never get through them. At times we even give up on ever trying to make it happen. However, unknown to many people, these challenges are just there to help us grow strong and to test our faith. Believing in God and also trying to pull ourselves through the situations is all we need. God never challenge us in ways beyond our strength.

However, we should not always sit and await the help to find us. It only comes when we also try, and most of the time it is from the places we least expect, from a friend, a neighbor, a family member or at times from a total stranger. Either way, any form or magnitude of help is significant.

The Hulscher family is one of the many that went through such kind of challenge, but unlike many people, they successfully sailed through. The two parents, Maria and Jesse Hulscher were still in love with each other even after years of marriage. They stay in Willmar in Minnesota, had a two-year-old son and had just gotten another new-born baby boy. They were beside themselves with joy, and the father went home to have the place ready for the baby.

Their home was cold, and therefore Jesse decided to turn on the furnace. Unfortunately, it could not turn o. He tried turning it on and off, but nothing happened. It was indeed a big problem because the family had spent their saving yet they had to make the house warm for the baby lest he became sick.

One thing which was quite apparent was the fact that they had to repair the furnace. However, the main problem was how the family was going to get the money. Jesse decided he would fix the problem of cash later and decided to call Magnuson Sheet Metal contractors, situated in Willmar.

It was the manager who answered the phone, and after listening to Jesse’s situation, he sent over someone to go and fix it.

The repairman quickly repaired the furnace for the sake of the baby and the Hulschers were relieved. However, their happiness did not last long. The house was now going to be warm, but they did not have enough change to give the repairman.

The father humbly approached the repairman and was not sure of what to tell. Instead of handing them the bill, the repairman said to him that the company would send an invoice via mail within two days. Even though that was not enough time to acquire the whole amount, it could give them time to seek help somewhere.

A few days later, Jesse found the letter in the mailbox. He opened it to see how much the company wanted from him. What Jesse saw on the invoice sheet was a great surprise to him. Instead of indicating the amount he owed them, the company wrote “No charge…Take care of the new baby.”

The Hulschers were surprised; they had not expected such kindness from the company. They were so grateful and sure that what had happened was indeed help from God.
