Pets become such an important part of a family that owners often treat them like one of their kids. Case in point, one woman decided to honor her pet Chihuahua named Lupita by throwing a Quinceañera party in her honor. Plenty of people have been known to give their dog a little birthday treat or throw a tiny casual party, but Miranda Sanchez went all out with Lupita’s 15 birthday party extravaganza.
To kick things off, Miranda sent out invitations to Lupita’s dog friends so they could attend the big event. The event was a smashing success, complete with sweet decorations and Lupita dressed the part, wearing a white dress, pink tutu, and sporting a tiny tiara.
Lupita’s quinceañera also featured a dog-safe birthday cake and adorable doggie glamour shots.
As for the humans in attendance, they had a fun BBQ, enjoying Lupita’s special day.
Miranda and Lupita came into each others’lives two years prior, with Miranda sharing: “I’ve had her for two years and some months, which is almost 15 years in doggy years so I thought it would be funny to throw her a quince and embrace her Mexican heritage.”
Miranda found that she almost got carried away with planning the event, noting: “I was going to get mariachis, but they’re like $150 — I had to remember this was for a dog.”
The party, she said, was “another excuse to get my family together and eat and celebrate,” so she figured people would be on board. “I had multiple friends with dogs, so I invited them. There were seven small dogs, and they all dressed up. It was so cute,” she added.
Her cousin tweeted photos from the big day and the story went viral. The birthday girl “loved it,”according to Miranda, who added, “She was a bit irritated with her quince crown, but other than that, she loved having all the other doggies there.”
Miranda’s cousin Megan told Teen Vogue: “My dog Miley and I were just invited to the party, but it was Lupita’s quinceañera (which is a party a girl has when she turns 15) that my cousin threw for her.”
Megan added: “At first, I started freaking out because I didn’t expect it to go viral, and then I thought it was kind of cool, but as it got more likes and retweets, it got annoying because my phone kept going off nonstop.”
Among the comments left on the Twitter post about the party was one person who was pleasantly surprised that everyone was so positive about it. She wrote: “I was coming to the replies here expecting the negativity and meanness that usually comes from Twitter. Instead I get all these adorable furbaby pictures and all this positivity and your beautiful puppy and your beautiful face and I just… I needed this so much today!”
On social media, many commenters weighed in about Lupita’s party, sharing photos and stories of their own pets’ special celebrations they’ve had over the years.
And, Lupita is a definite celebrity — she even has her own Instagram account!
