Dean Carnazes can run hundreds of miles and yet not feel fatigue and muscle pain. A California resident runs long distances for most of his life and, apparently, has a fantastic genetics. His incredible abilities were noticeable at school, when the other teenagers ran through 15 laps around the stadium, Dean did it 105 times. In high school, the guy did not have a relationship with the new coach, and the guy suddenly dropped his classes at run. It's hard to believe, but from the age of 15 to 30 he ruled out a run from his life.
One day, when Dean Carnasses was already 30 years old, he felt that he was terribly tired of his terrible way of life and he wants to run again. Closer to the night, Dean went for a run, and stopped, having already run 50 km, he was experiencing severe pain due to calluses on his legs, but his muscles were in perfect order, no fatigue. By that time, a lucky businessman with extra pounds and beer belly, who had not run for 15 years, took literally and, after leaving the bar, ran 50 km. After that, he realized that running must return to his life.
Running in 2005, 560 km, Dean Carnasses became a real hero for many people, but he did not stop, and already in 2006 set a new record. For one day he ran 221 km. Also in 2006, he ran 50 marathons in 50 states for 50 consecutive days. At that time he was 44 years old.
Many are interested in the question, what did Dean Carnasses do 15 years ago and why after so many successes, he stopped running. Even at school, the guy started having problems with alcohol, he was even twice kicked out of the school for coming drunk to school. Then there was the university, where night booze Dean just continued. All this lasted until the moment when the ultra marathon runner experienced a tragic event. In a car accident his sister died.
Dean began to drink a lot less, he entered the magistracy, which he graduated with the best marks on the course, and then graduated from the McLaren Business School of the University of San Francisco. As a result, even young Dean Carnasses became a successful businessman who liked to drink with friends in a bar and completely forgot what a run is.
In an effort to find out what the secret of phenomenal endurance of Dean Carnezes was a lot of research. Aerobic tests of ultra marathon runners showed excellent results, but it's not surprising, because Dean is a professional athlete. But tests on the threshold of anaerobic metabolism, which is also called the lactate threshold - presented a real sensation. It is logical that among trained people, endurance will be greater than that of all the rest, hence the higher anaerobic threshold. Testing this indicator usually takes about 15 minutes. Dean Carnazes spent an hour at the test, after which the scientists admitted that they had never seen such a thing. His lactate threshold was several times higher than even among trained athletes.
Running became a daily activity for Dean. In the morning he leaves the house, runs 42 km (marathon distance), then returns home, and as if nothing had happened, he prepares breakfast for his children. After that, Dean goes to work in the office, where at lunchtime he runs another 10 km, but already at a fast pace. Now Dean is 53 years old and he continues to run!
That's what Dean says about his run at 560 km.
Kilometer 160
The body begins to ache a bit.
Kilometer 224
Tore the first pair of custom-made sneakers. Begin to whine quadriceps, calves, torso. The pain is dull, but sometimes it suddenly turns into spasms. Particularly affected by caviar - a feeling that they were hammered on them.
Kilometer 320
It's already two nights without sleep. I'm all worn out. But when you run all night, at dawn you get a second wind.
Kilometer 336
He killed the second pair of sneakers. The head is not working well. There is a feeling that I'm looking at my body from the side. The sight is deplorable.
Kilometer 480
The third night without sleep. I run, as in delirium, I loop from side to side. I now and then brings to the roadway. The drivers are signaling. At 2 am I fall asleep for forty seconds: right on the run, without interrupting the race. Do you know the children's book "Where there are wild animals"? I started hallucinating: it seemed that raccoons and possums on the roadside turned into monsters from a book. Assistants doused my head with icy water.
Kilometer 488
It hurts so much that I scream. I'm running along the deserted highway and yelling. Then I realize the whole comedy of the situation, and I am dismayed by unbridled laughter. I stop laughing and start yelling again. And it again makes me laugh. I guess I look like a madman.
Kilometer 496
"March of death, death march, death march". I throw out of my head all thoughts about kilometers and focus only on one: left-right, left-right ... I shuffle the soles on the asphalt. I change shoes in the fourth pair of sneakers. The main thing is not to lose your rhythm.
Kilometer 544
Suddenly come to life. I'm landing at a speed of 16 km / h. How obsessed. Actually, it's not even I who run - my body is running, and I'm pouring from above. I do not feel my leg under me, I do not feel anything. Literally fly through the airKilometer 560 (October 15, 22:44, Stanford, California)
The thrill is incredible. Dropped 3 kilograms. Burned 40 thousand calories. A few minutes after the finish, the body becomes numb from hypothermia. They put me in a special sleeping bag. I remember only how someone fed me a spoonful of hummus. Then a failure. I slept all night and woke up safely in the morning.
