Justin Reid named Texans' Ed Block Courage Award winner
Texans safety Justin Reid has gritted through painful shoulder and wrist injuries all year.
As recognition for his toughness, the second-year player from Stanford has been named the Texans' annual Ed Block Courage Award winner.
Reid has been extremely durable despite his injuries, missing just one game since being selected in the third round last year.
“I feel blessed and honored to be voted the winner of the Ed Block Courage Award, especially since it’s voted on purely by my teammates,” Reid said. “It means a lot to be able to represent them and the Houston Texans organization with this honor.”
In 25 career starts, the Louisiana native has 153 tackles, four interceptions, one returned 101 yards for a touchdown, 14 passes defensed, two quarterback hits and there tackles for losses.
“Justin Reid’s toughness and team-first attitude make him a great selection for this year’s Ed Block Courage Award,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “For a young player, he has a great understanding of what it means to be a professional in order to have success at this level. Everyone sees the plays he makes on Sundays, but it’s his dedication to doing whatever it takes throughout the week to get his body ready to go in the training room that has earned the respect of his teammates. ”
