Michael Brantley tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning Thursday night and won it with a two-run homer in the 13th, giving the Astros an improbable 11-9 victory in which they rebounded from a seven-run deficit entering the bottom of the second.
Mariners reliever Matt Wisler walked Jake Marisnick, who entered the game in the ninth inning, to lead off the 13th before striking out José Altuve. Brantley followed with a two-run homer to right to wrap up the Houston comeback.
Seattle scored five in the first and two in the second to take what appeared to be an insurmountable lead, fueled by an unlikely meltdown on the part of Astros starter Wade Miley, who was charged with five runs on five hits plus a walk without recording an out in the first inning.
But the Astros kept chipping, chipping away against nine Mariners pitchers, tying it with three runs in the eighth on a two-run triple by Altuve and Altuve's run on a Brantley sacrifice fly.
