The Texans are cutting veteran wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

Thomas is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon.

He has been rehabilitating from his injury in Houston.

Thomas is due a $14 million nonguaranteed base salary that will be off of the Texans' books.

A five-time Pro Bowl selection with the Denver Broncos, Thomas is facing uncertainty about his football future while the Texans are moving forward with All-Pro selection DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller, who's coming off a torn ACL, and Keke Coutee.

Following the midseason trade from Denver, Thomas caught 23 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns and provided strong leadership in the locker room.

"It's up in the air," Thomas said at the end of the season. "I had a tough injury. I am 31 now. A couple of guys are coming back like Will and Keke.
