It’s no secret that Michelle Obama’s “healthy” school lunches aren’t liked by students across the country. In fact, schools have reported millions of dollars in annual waste because they’re simply throwing uneaten food away since the kids won’t eat it. Rather than continuing to push her horrible standards on our nation’s children, perhaps she should follow the lead of other countries and what they feed their kids for lunch, because it looks a lot more appetizing than what children in the United States are being fed.
MailOnline compiled pictures of school lunches from Spain, Ukraine, Greece, South Korea, Finland, Italy, Brazil, and France. Just one look at their meals, and it’s easy to see why there’s so much waste here in America. Other nations’ dishes are made up of wholesome foods, like fish, steak, and vegetables, while American meals are mostly processed crap like popcorn chicken, hot dogs, cookies, and beans out of a tin. Joining the U.S. in serving meals that kids don’t like is Great Britain, who uses the same types of processed foods for their lunches.
The pictures of the lunches alone speak volumes as to the differences in what other countries believe to be healthy, with some meals being prepared by gourmet chefs and looking like they came from an expensive restaurant. Meanwhile, American lunches look like something served in a hospital, or worse yet, a prison.
France treats their lunches as if they’re a form of art, serving multiple courses full of vegetables and meats. Below is a meal containing rice, salmon, ratatouille, bread, a salad with celery and carrots, an orange, and a doughnut.
In contrast, an American meal looks like it just came from jailhouse cooks, with popcorn chicken, ketchup, mashed potatoes, canned peas, a huge cookie, and a fruit cup.
Below are lunches from four different countries. Top left is the Ukraine, serving sausage and mash; top right is Brazil’s plantains, rice and black beans; bottom right we have Finland’s beetroot salad and pea soup; then France serves steak with beans and carrots.
This is a lunch from Great Britain, consisting of hot dogs and beans, a sorry-looking baked potato, a half of corn on the cob, melon, and a juice box.
The rest of the pictures are labeled as to which countries they come from, and they show the stark contrast between our food standards for schools and what the world serves. Check them out, then let us know what you think in the comments!
