Big Congrats to the #B1GFootball Special Teams Player of the Week: Punter @blakegillikin! #PSUvsIOWA #WeAre

After an outstanding performance against Iowa, Penn State punter Blake Gillikin has been named the Big Ten special teams player of the week.

Despite nearly being run over twice and getting injured once, Gillikin was immaculate. He landed five punts inside the Hawkeyes’ 20-yard line and launched one for a season-long of 62. In total he had seven punts for an average of 42.1 yards.

Per SB Nation’s Bud Elliott, Iowa’s average starting field position was its own 17-yard line, while Penn State’s was its own 34. Gillikin’s ability to flip the field and keep the Hawkeyes pinned deep is a huge reason why the Nittany Lions remain undefeated after their trip to Kinnick.
