A Texas mom was killed when she tried to prevent her 26-year-old daughter from committing suicide and a struggle ensued, authorities said.
Esperanza Escamilla, 45, was fatally shot in the chest May 1 at her Corpus Christi home as she tried to wrestle a gun from her suicidal daughter, The Caller Times reported.
Police said that her daughter, Serena Escamilla, was upset over a breakup and threatened suicide before the deadly incident.
She allegedly told her mother that she “wanted to shoot herself” earlier in the day.
The pair reportedly began fighting over the weapon, which fired and struck the mother’s chest and the daughter in the stomach.
Officers were called to the scene on a report that a woman “had shot herself and her mother accidentally,” according to the police.
