New Baby Seat Is Causing Controversy

BuzzViralNews

Who doesn’t love a good ole’ baby video on the Internet?! Well, in the case of the Babocush baby seat, thousands of people are currently hating on this new viral video that’s stirring up some serious controversy. Here's why people are outraged about this new baby seat.

Would you try out the Babocush? Why or why not? Let us know in a comment below!

The video. The video, featuring newborn baby Daniel, shows him lying in a rather peculiar-looking baby chair. The video has more than 10 million views, more than 170,000 shares and more than 25,000 comments.

The message. The clip is only 30 seconds long, but the message is powerful nonetheless. The Babocush promises to make babies feel like they’re being "held" even when they’re not. The product is aimed towards busy parents (so essentially, every parent on the face of the Earth).

How it works. The baby seat mimics the ‘head over the shoulder’ positions that babies love so much and also has a stimulated heartbeat sound built into it!

The controversy. Interesting enough… but is it really 10 million views interesting? Well, what really has people watching is the parenting debate that arose as the result of the video.

Lazy parenting. People argue that the chair takes away from crucial parent-baby bonding time and is a "lazy" form of parenting.

The comments. “Really? Baby won’t hear your heartbeat, have your smell or feel your warmth,“ one disgruntled mother commented. "They are tiny for such a short time. Make the most of it—cleaning will be there tomorrow.”

Potential danger. Some parents are worried that the chair can be harmful to the child, since babies should not sleep on their fronts.

Bad precedent. “I am very concerned that this breaks the advice that babies should sleep on their backs,” another woman wrote.

Lifesaver. Others are saying that the chair is a "lifesaver." A mom sarcastically commented, “Great product idea. Will help those ‘not perfect parents’ like myself out there.”

Sharing. A number of moms are sharing their own photos online, and some have even been featured on the Babocush Instagram page.

It's a blessing. One mother, whose daughter suffers from awful colic, was able to quickly put her child to sleep thanks to the Babocush… which allowed for momma to take a nice bath while baby snoozed nearby!

Safety. Chair creator Kerry Nevins advises that the chair should not replace a crib, but she stands by the testimony that Babocush has been rigorously tested, is safe and has the ability to mitigate flat-head syndrome as well as wind and colic.

Child-rearing is challenging. Holding a fussy baby while trying to navigate the rest of your day-to-day life is definitely challenging. It’s clear to see why some parents see the benefits of the Babocush.

Cognitive development benefits. Babocush also claims to promote cognitive development, but the findings are not backed up by actual scientific support.

Price and availability. The Babocush is on sale now at $143 per baby seat and comes with the comfort cushion, covers, a harness and the soothing vibration (heartbeat sounds) device.
