Brazilian Woman Mistakenly Buried Alive, Tried to Fight Her Way Out of the Coffin

People living near to the cemetery heard screams and bangs coming from inside the Cemetery.

According to the report, a woman was mistakenly buried alive for 11 days before trying to fight her way out of the grave.

Doctors declared Rosangela Almeida dos Santos dead because of septic shock following two cardiac arrests.

According to Brazilian news site G1:

Her family dug up her grave after individuals heard screams and moans coming from her grave.

Natalina Silva told Brazil’s news site G1:

"When I got there right in front of the tomb, I heard banging from inside it. I thought the kids who play around the cemetery were playing a joke on me. Then I heard her groan twice, and after those two groans, she stopped."

They found wounds on her hands and forehead and blood in the casket that show she tried to fight her way out, According to the report.

Her feet felt warm when touched by the family members.

Rosangela mother said:

"She had tried to open the lid, even the nails that had been hammered in were loose. Her hands were injured like she had been trying to get out."

According to her death certificate, she suffered two cardiac arrests before dying from 'septic shock'.

She suffered fainting spells since seven years old and took anti-convulsant medicines.

Ana Francisco Dias said:

"There were then 500 people who came here and packed the cemetery, everybody went to see, lots of people touched her foot and everybody saw that she was still warm. She wasn't cold."

Ms. Santos’ sister, Isamara Almeida, said:

"We don’t want to accuse any doctor, we don’t want to cause any problems. But we witnessed that situation, there’s just no way a person can be buried for 11 days and still be warm."

The authorities are investigating the case they will be taking statements from the witnesses and family members.

The hospital will provide all necessary information to the authorities, a spokesman for the hospital said.
