The New Renaultsport Megane Will Have Trick Four-Wheel Steering

Car Throttle

Quite a while ago, there was a rumour going around that the next Renaultsport Megane would go all-wheel drive, in an attempt to take the fight to the Ford Focus RS. The gossip has long since been quashed, but we now know that the Megane RS will get all-wheel steering.

In the latest tantalising detail dropped by Renault, the French manufacturer has announced that ‘4Control’ four-wheel steering tech will be fitted as standard. The system uses an “electromagnetic actuator” to turn the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels, giving “enhanced agility, cornering performance and steering precision”.

In addition to the 4Control announcement, Renault has also confirmed that - as with previous RS Meganes - there’ll be a Cup chassis option. No details have been given as to what the Cup pack will consist of - Renault has merely stated that the standard ‘Sport’ chassis will allow for “high performance and ride comfort in everyday use” while the Cup option is “engineered to deliver the ultimate track performance experience.”

On previous RS Meganes, the Cup chassis usually consisted of a stiffer suspension set-up and a limited-slip differential, among other things. Although with the anticipated circa-300bhp output of the new car, we suspect an LSD will be fitted to all models.

The car will be revealed in full at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
