Georgia football had Alabama on the ropes once again, and the script was eerily similar to last year’s national championship game. After the game, Kirby Smart isn’t giving up on his team’s College Football Playoff hopes though.
The Dawgs did a pretty good job of showing that they are close to the top team in the country. If the selection committee truly chooses the “best four teams” above all else, Georgia has an argument.
If it comes down to paper resume, though…Oklahoma feels most likely to get the spot.
After the game, Kirby Smart has delivered a fiery press conference, arguing that Georgia football is the team that Alabama doesn’t want to see in a month.

It is a compelling argument, but it is a bit hard to see it being enough.
Oklahoma just avenged its only loss of the year—a three-point game in the Red River Rivalry—by beating Texas 39-27 and capturing the Big 12 title. The Sooners have been derided for their shotty defense all season as well, but put together one of their stronger defensive efforts today.
This wasn’t Georgia’s first loss. The Bulldogs lost by 20 at LSU earlier in the year. Death Valley is one of the hardest places to play in the country, but Alabama blanked the Tigers there, 29-0.
We’ll find out if Smart gets his wish tomorrow. The College Football Playoff unveiling is on ESPN at noon.
