Shirden, St. Joseph run past Trumbull, earn top seed in Class L

TRUMBULL — Jaden Shirden ran for three touchdowns and caught one of Jack Wallace’s four touchdown passes in St. Joseph’s 52-7 win over Trumbull on Thursday morning at Dalling Field.

St. Joseph (10-0) completed its first undefeated regular season since 1983 and will be the top seed in the Class L tournament. Its home quarterfinal against Wilton will be played Tuesday night at Trumbull at 6:30 p.m.

Trumbull finishes 3-7. It got its score in the second quarter, a Kyle Atherton 15-yard reception from Riley Simpson.

The Hogs rolled out to a 21-0 lead and took a 38-7 edge to halftime on Austin Jose’s 42-yard field goal.

Brady Hutchison caught two touchdown passes, and Will Diamantis caught one.

Shirden and Atherton were named their teams’ MVPs of the game.
