Captain Barbra Kamau, who became a pilot in September last year, was killed alongside First Officer Jean Mureithi in a plane crash in the Aberdares. She was laid to rest on June 14 in Kiambu, Kenya.

Her fiancé Austin Mbalo wrote down a very heartfelt tribute in her honor. The couple began dating in 2016 after being friends for several years and was planning to wed before the crash occurred.

Austin captured the memories they both shared in an emotional poem which he shared on his wall. He titled the poem Purple Flower because of the deceased pilot’s love for the color, purple.

Austin wrote:

‘There are many colorful flowers on the path of life

But the prettiest have the sharpest thorns

And just like the sharp thorns of the whistling thorn tree

You jealously guarded our love daily

There are many colorful flowers on the path of life

But the prettiest have the sharpest thorns

And fearlessly you loved me like a loyal wife

Raising our house to a home

Goodbye my beautiful purple flower

I know you had to heed the Father’s call,

And even though I only had you for the shortest hour

I thank the Lord for the most beautiful queen of all.’

RIP to her.
