Kids today are out of hand.
A new trend has emerged in recent years of giving dorm rooms the sort of treatment usually reserved for actual houses attached to a mortgage. For a space you have to move out of in 9 months!
Why, in my day, we were lucky if we even had sheets that fit those extra-long twin dorm beds. (Why do these only exist in college dorm rooms, by the way? You can't control the temperature and have to shower in front of 15 other people every morning but your bed is long enough to accommodate the just 14.5% of the population over 6' tall! Amenities!)
But today's students are out here giving their dorm rooms full HGTV makeovers, shiplap and all, in a space they usually have to share with another person, who in my experience doesn't speak, smells like burritos, and decorates their entire half of the room with vaguely pornographic Anime posters.
This makes no sense, but some people's creative spirit--and, apparently, budgets--just cannot be contained:
I am baffled. First of all, I'm writing a letter to my alma mater, Michigan State University for banning coffee makers due to "fire hazards." This person has a whole-ass small town cafe wedged into the corner of her dorm and I demand justice. I'm surprised there aren't cute little old ladies sitting at that table playing mah-jong for God's sake.
Secondly, this is a LOT of money and effort to go to decorating a space that is likely to be covered in pizza grease, spilled booze and vomit (along with other ... biological substances) within a month tops. Who is this person's mother?!
