Cardinals designate pitcher Greg Holland for assignment The Cardinals began the process of cutting ties with reliever Greg Holland, designating him for assignment Friday. St. Louis will have seven days to work out a trade or release Holland, who turned down a $15 million player option with the Rockies in the offseason and joined the Cardinals in March on a one-year, $14 million deal. Holland, 32, has recorded a 7.92 ERA with a 2.24 WHIP, walking 22 batters in 25 innings pitched.
