Softball cracks the Top 25 for the first time in four years, VT shows up at the ACC Tournament, lacrosse continues to struggle against ranked opponents, and the women’s basketball await the selection show.
Women’s Basketball
As John noted earlier this week, the Hokies fell during the second round in a heartbreaking OT loss to the Clemson Tigers. Read the whole story here. As noted in the Tweet below, Virginia Tech has won seven of their last 11. Now all eyes are on the post-season. The NCAA Tournament selection show is this Monday at 7 PM eastern. The optimist / homer in me wants to believe that the stronger performance towards the end of the season might allow the Hokies to sneak in, but the realist in me thinks that another strong run in the WNIT is more likely. WE SHALL SEE.

This past weekend the Hokies hosted the ACC Tournament in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech finished second with 86 points while N.C. State won the ACC with 93.5 points. Virginia only scored 27.5 (**snicker**). Zavatsky, McFadden, and Lewis all won their respective ACC individual titles and VPI is sending nine scrappers to the NCAA Championship Tournament! The Championship will be held 21 March through 23 March. ESPN will be streaming every match, so be sure to check in on the stream. Fantastic work gentlemen!

Lacrosse
The Hokies are having a hard time with ranked teams this season. They faced No. 18 USC, 11-13, before recovering to defeat Fresno State, 15-8. VPI’s robust non-conference schedule continues when they host No. 13 Denver this Sunday.

Softball
Virginia Tech won the series against Georgia Tech, taking the first and third games, but falling, 10-7, in game two. This weekend they continue their conference slate when they travel to Raleigh to take on the Wolfpack. VT’s performance thus far has earned them their first appearance in the ESPN / USA Softball Top 25 in four years! Keep up the good work ladies!
