At the beginning of the film “An American in Paris,” impoverished artist Gene Kelly hoists the bed of his tiny studio into the ceiling via pulleys. I thought this was just a cute creation by the film’s prop directors, until I learned that these so-called ‘elevator’ beds actually exist.

And no wonder: space in Paris is at a premium, and flats are small. That’s why Espace Loggia has created its mobile bed. Or rather, mobile room units–the bed and pull-up apparatus comes complete with either chairs on a base of drawers for single beds, or a shelving unit and 2 supporting legs for a double bed. The legs and chairs support the weight of the bed once it’s on the ground, and also provide space-conscious furnishings for petit apartments in Paris and beyond.
