STANDING ROCK INDIAN RESERVATION -- Standing Rock Tribal Councilman Mike Faith led the primary race as 1,380 tribal members cast their votes for tribal chairman this week.
Faith received more than 24 percent of the vote, followed by sitting Tribal Chairman Dave Archambault.
Archambault received nearly 22 percent of the vote, with 36 votes separating him from the leader. Jerl Thompson, head of the tribe’s child support agency, received 213 votes, 15 percent of the total ballots cast.
The three will go on to vie for the chairmanship in the September general election.
The reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.
