MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. -- A stolen car used by the gunman in Saturday’s fatal shooting in Mendota Heights was found Sunday in Baytown Township, but the suspect remains at large, police said Monday.
A Toyota Corolla that belonged to shooting victim Beverly Cory, 48, was found at the Washington County Fairgrounds near Lake Elmo.
Authorities are also working reports from the public Monday that suspected shooter Lucifer Vincent Nguyen was spotted in the Stillwater area about 4 p.m. Saturday.
“We’ve had some reports that he was seen in the general area — the Stillwater area — and we’re still trying to vet all of that out,” Mendota Heights Police Chief Kelly McCarthy said Monday. “But we’re just asking people in that area … if you see him, just remain vigilant.”
Nguyen, 44, is still considered armed and dangerous, McCarthy said.
His current whereabouts remain unknown, although investigators believe he may still be in the Twin Cities metro area, McCarthy said. He may be on foot, asking people for a ride, or taking public transportation, she added.
“We are asking that the public take general precautions by locking homes and vehicles and call 911 to report any suspicious activity or possible sightings of Nguyen,” Mendota Heights police said in prepared statement Monday afternoon.
Police say Nguyen shot and killed Cory, of Maplewood, while fleeing authorities following a robbery Saturday morning. He used Cory’s Toyota Corolla to flee the area.
Investigators from the Mendota Heights Police Department, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the U.S. Marshals continue to work leads.
