What Happened

Human trafficking is a monster that dwells among us and should be done away with in whichever way possible. In her post to advise people to be cautious in their stops, Abby narrates the incidents of her stop for a rest and to go to the bathroom with her daughter.

It is very typical for all of us to stop and take a rest, go to the washrooms or maybe stretch our legs during a long drive. What most of us rarely consider is the security of the places at which we make the stops. The kind of people that could be around and the type of neighborhood it is. However, from the narration of Abby, we should rethink of where we rest and at what time.

Abby and her daughter were cruising along 1-74 Batesville in Indiana. They were just from Cincinnati and were driving home. Having been a long drive, they decided to make a stop. On getting out, they experienced one of the terrifying moments, one which Abby chose to share with the rest of the world.

She recounts that as she and her daughter were walking to the bathroom, a lady they had not seen initially started talking to her daughter. The lady, from her appearance, was not sober. Instinctively, Abby held her daughter’s hand tightly and walked faster. The lady also increased her pace and tried talking to them, at the same time lighting a cigarette.

They did not stop to listen and headed to a nearby stall. The lady also followed and entered the same place. Abby explains she heard the lady talk to another lady but all she heard was “the little girl.” The signs were too much, and Abby was now sure something was not right. Still holding her daughter’s hand, she told her (her daughter) she was going to carry her out and that they could not wash their hands. The two ladies were still there, and the first lady had put on different clothes.

Abby got even more terrified when the lady followed them. She, therefore, ran to her car and locked herself and her daughter in the car. It got worse when Abby saw three men standing in front of a minivan which had all its doors open. She dialed 9-1-1 and reported the incident to the police.

The happening was one episode that has stuck in her memory and probably in her daughter’s. With certainty, Abby adds that had she not been watchful enough, her fate and that of her daughter would have been one of the worst ones.

Cases of kidnapping and human trafficking have hit the headlines severally. In as much as those in charge, say the government or the police, try to counter it, getting rid of it entirely seems to be impossible. Therefore it is highly advisable, however long the drive maybe and however tired you may be, being mindful of where you make a stop is essential in reducing the cases of kidnapping.

Trusting your instincts could also help. Come to think of it; if Abby had not believed her instincts and grabbed her daughter they would be just another sad incident that people wish had not happened but one that no one can undo
