EL PASO, Texas —

People in Socorro and the Clint area continue to deal with the aftermath of devastating floods.

Some of the affected Socorro flood victims are getting help. But, for folks in the Clint area tell us, they have not been so lucky.

"I'm on my own. I'm here to fend for myself," said Patricia Romero, who lives in El Paso County near Clint.

Terrible floods have created a headache for people in El Paso County.

"It was devastating," said Romero. "I mean, I just couldn't hold back. I try to be strong and not show my emotions and those few days were really tough."

Romero has lived in the county for 36 years and said the people in her neighborhood only have each other to rely on.

"I'm so thankful for the community here and the neighbors helping each other and my family and my friends," she said.

As we've reported, a Declaration of Disaster is in effect for those in Socorro, and the Red Cross is assisting families who have had to evacuate their homes.

A Socorro city councilman is taking up donations.

"I'm actually starting a drive to get clothes for the kids, students of Socorro Independent School District," said Alejandro Garcia, District 2 representative for the city of Socorro. "As of right now, we're doing the kids, because they are in school and the most vulnerable. We want them to make sure that school stays a priority for them."

He said he is collecting clothes and shoes for the children.

Garcia told KFOX14 the drive is in need of clothes in youth sizes 7, 8 and 10. It is needs shoes in children's sizes 12 and 2 1/2.

Any donations can be dropped off at the city of Socorro administration offices.

"It's devastating to see what the residents have to go through," Garcia said.

Just a few miles away, Romero said she is asking for help from El Paso County.

"I'm hoping that somebody hears me and something is done," she said.

El Paso County Commissioner Vince Perez told KFOX14 that the Food King located on Alameda Avenue in central El Paso has offered to help the evacuated families in Socorro by providing them with food.
