EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) —
New video released Friday shows the "mother of all bombs" exploding as it hits an ISIS target in Afghanistan. This follows airstrikes in Syria authorized by President Trump last week.
El Pasoans have mixed reactions about what's going on internationally and how it's being handled.
"I don't really believe in promoting war to make peace," said Mitzi Martinez.
"How can you attack another city that's already under attack?" Valeria Padilla said.
"We have to show force, meaning that we mean business," said Joseph Whitaker.
"I know there's a problem with terrorism," said Anna Mwangi. "I know that somebody must do something about it, especially countries like here that embrace democracy, but also I'm very concerned about civilians."
Some people in the borderland said they believe the U.S. needs to solve its own problems first.
"In the U.S., we have a lot of issues to be more involved in and be more funded about instead of, like, being there and getting in more political issues on a global level," Padilla said. "What can we do? Just pray. Just like send prayers or water or other things for those in need, but we need to focus here."
Others said they're not sure how to feel.
"With the bombing, I was like... gasp ... like, it's begun," Mwangi said. "Having made the first move, you don't know what the other move will be."
Still others say the U.S. taking an active role is the right thing to do.
"I personally think it's a good thing," Whitaker said. "When it comes to terrorism like that, we've got to take care of business. We've got to protect our country. We have to show force, meaning that we mean business. Otherwise it will come to our country."
At least 36 ISIS militants were killed in Thursday's bombing in Afghanistan.
