GRESHAM, Ore. —

Police have identified the two young girls they say were killed by their own father in a domestic violence crime early Wednesday morning in Gresham.

The medical examiner's report revealed that 8-year old Janet Cortinas-Duran and her 11-year old sister Jasmine Duran-Cortinas were both shot multiple times by their father 42-year old Jaime Cortinas.

According to Gresham Police, Cortinas fired another shot when officers arrived around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday and officer Matt Anderson, a 13 year veteran on the force shot Jaime multiple times.

The medical examiner says Jaime died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and no rounds from officer Anderson's weapon struck either of the young girls.

The officers involved have been placed on leave.

"It takes a toll because you’ve got to think about it. They have families," said Portland Police Bureau Chaplain Clyde Lewis who has counseled the officers involved.

"We have guys that are off right now, we have guys that are like 'this is crazy, this is overwhelming.' But the reality is it will forever affect them," said Lewis.
