El Paso, Texas —

June is the month in which the Borderland typically gets its hottest days.

The National Weather Service says that the average high temperature for El Paso during June tops 96 degrees. That's 8 degrees hotter than the average high in May, and 1 degree warmer than July, which ranks second when it comes to the hottest daily highs.

But July takes the crown for having the warmest nights in El Paso. Overnight lows in July average just above 70 degrees, nearly 3 degrees warmer than June’s overnight lows.

The first 100-degree high typically hits on June 14, and that month usually has the most triple-digit days.

El Paso has averaged about three weeks of 100-plus highs annually since 1981. But last year, there were 38 days of 100 degrees or hotter, including the third longest streak of triple-digits in the city's recorded weather history, with 15 consecutive days.

June also has the Sun City's all-time record high of 114 degrees. That was recorded on June 30, 1994.

Every year since the National Weather Service started keeping records for El Paso, in 1879, the city has reached a high of 100 degrees at least once.

The last year El Paso had only one day of triple-digit heat was half a century ago, in 1967.
