Do animals have a sixth sense that allows them to detect something about to happen? One pet owner in the United Kingdom definitely thought so when he was preparing to hang himself. His docile pet turned aggressive against him.
Byron Taylor of Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, was at the lowest point in his life in 2015 after his ex-partner left him. He described to the Mirror that he was left in a “very bad place” and one day after drinking heavily, he decided to take his life.
At that time, he was 23 years old and felt there was nothing left for him. After he prepared a noose, he went downstairs to write a farewell note to his family.
When he returned upstairs, he found his 6-year-old rare Welsh Bull Mastiff, Geo, had already grabbed the noose and held it in his mouth.
Taylor, who was a dispatcher for the ambulance service, tried to wrestle the rope back from Geo, but the normally laid-back dog growled at him and refused to give it back.
“At first, I thought he wanted to play. I said ‘give it here’, and he started growling at me,” Taylor said. “He chewed up the noose. He never growls, but each time I tried to take it off him, he would snarl.”
Seeing this, Taylor believed that Geo must have sensed what he was going to do and stopped him from doing it.
“In a way, I think Geo knew what I was going to do. They have a sixth sense about this kind of thing. He knew something was up,” Taylor said.
Because of Geo, Taylor did not go through with the suicide.
“Geo saved me. If he wasn’t there, I wouldn’t be here … I was adamant I was going to kill myself,” Taylor told The Dodo. “As time went on I felt I had no life left and there was simply only one way out.”
Sadly, after Taylor recovered from depression, he had to face life without his pet. Geo was diagnosed with a tumor in his brain and passed away on Sept. 9, 2015.
“Geo is loved by many and always has been. We also wanted to make something good out of something bad and help out other dogs that need the love I gave him,” Taylor said.
Dogs are man’s best friend. They are loyal and loving companions who are willing to die for their owners. There is no doubt that Geo sensed the change in Taylor’s behavior and helped to save him.
Animals are not alone when it comes to possessing a sixth sense.
