Report: Sixers to release Demetrius Jackson

The biggest Philadelphia sports news from Sunday

While most of Philadelphia was focused on watching Nick Foles spin his magic in the Double Doink game, the Sixers were the subject of a Shams cherry bomb:

Shams Charania
Sources @TheAthleticNBA @WatchStadium: The Philadelphia 76ers are releasing guard Demetrius Jackson, who is on a two-way NBA deal and is accepting a deal in China.

The move makes sense for all parties. Jackson can make more money overseas, while the Sixers can use a two-way spot on a player with higher upside. Jackson will finish this stint with the Sixers having appearing in just nine games across the last two seasons. At least he had one memorable moment before departing:

The Sixers appear to have their sights set on the player to replace Jackson’s vacated two-way spot: former Division II Wheeling Jesuit University star Haywood Highsmith.

There’s a great chance that Haywood Highsmith could get the #Sixers vacated two-way roster spot. The team is high on the @blue_coats wing, according to multiple sources,

We profiled Highsmith about a month ago after he participated in a team workout. The 6-foot-7 forward is averaging 13.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists for the Blue Coats, shooting 39.4% from behind the arc on 5.0 attempts per game.

Keep an eye out for this other shoe to drop, and remember that the Sixers still also have a regular roster spot available.
