Nickelodeon is responsible for producing some of the best teen comedy series, and at the top of the list is iCarly. This classic of the station created by Dan Shneider, followed three adolescents who produced its own web show. Carly, Sam and Freddie - played by Miranda Cosgrove, Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress, specifically - conquered the public with their hassles. Who did not love?
Although the production of the show sounded simple, there was a lot of work behind the scenes. The actors were forced to eat some foods they hated and were also forbidden to improvise. Imagine! Check out 7 behind the scenes secrets of iCarly you need to know:
1 - The original version of the series was quite different
Dan Schneider created iCarly around actress Miranda Cosgrove, but the story would be quite different. First of all, iCarly would call herself Starstruck and follow an ordinary girl who has suddenly been set to work on her favorite television series. Fortunately, he ended up changing his mind because he wanted his main character to have more control over the story.
2 - The actors had to eat food that they did not like
In almost every episode of iCarly, the characters appeared to be eating various kinds of food. Although the actors claimed that the production of the series did everything to make the food more delicious, they did not always like the result. In many cases, the characters ate food that the actors hated.
A good example happened in the first episode, in which actress Jennete McCurdy, Sam, needed to eat ham. She said she got so sick she vomited and then had to eat more to continue the recording.
3 - The actors could not improvise
It's easy to have a good laugh by watching iCarly, is not it? What few know is that a lot of those jokes made in the series were improvisation of the scriptwriters .... only of the writers. The actors should expect the writers to improvise the jokes for them on the set of recordings, and even though some actors like Jerry Trainor (Spencer) are comedians, they were not allowed to improvise in the scenes without first asking the permission of the writers or Dan Schneider .
4 - iJosie.com
By the time Dan Schneider was thinking about naming the Starstruck series, he was having a hard time choosing the names of the main characters. He even bought the domain name "iJosie.com" in case the protagonist was named Josie.
After he gave up the title, Schneider thought of putting the name of the character of Sam - that's right, Miranda Cosgrove would have the name that ended up being for Jennette McCurdy in the series. On the other hand, McCurdy would call himself Kira. Good thing the original names are a lot better!
5 - Sam's stunt was a boy
Sam Puckett was a unique character and one of his characteristics was his means of physical aggression, especially against Freddie. But to do these kinds of scenes, it took a stunt to replace it. The funny thing is that, in a good part of these physical contacts of Sam, the stunt double was a boy. Obviously, Sam's face did not appear in these scenes, so it's hard to tell the difference.
6 - Cat & Sam
To keep up with the success of iCarly and Victorious (two Schneider series), the Sam & Cat series was released. The story followed Sam (Jennette McCurdy) of iCarly and Cat (Ariana Grande) of Victorious after they met and decided to start a babysitting business together. Although the series was a success with the public, there were some problems behind the scenes that made the series canceled by Nickelodeon.
7 - The actors' career after iCarly
iCarly was one of Nickelodeon's most successful series, yet the actors failed to make a successful career after the series - unlike many other teenage series actors and actresses from Nickelodeon and Disney. The biggest work of Miranda Cosgrove was in the films of My Favorite Evil; of Nathan Kress was In The Eye of the Tornado (2014); Jennette McCurdy stars in the Netflix Between series.
