The director of the National Center for Security and Counter-Espionage William Evanina warned Americans who want to travel to Russia to watch the World Cup that their electronic devices are subject to espionage by criminal organizations and pirates working for the Russian government.
"If you intend to take with you a mobile phone, a laptop computer, a personal digital assistant, or any other electronic device, you should be mistaken: all the data on these devices (especially your identification data) can be disclosed to the government Russian or cybercriminals ".
He explained that corporate and government officials are the most vulnerable to espionage, but ordinary citizens can also be spied on them.
The official stressed that the best and simplest solution is not to accompany the person with him on his trip to Russia any electronic device essential or take precautionary measures such as removing the battery from the device when not in the position of use.
