The telling of Whitney Houston’s story has never been supported by her family until now. According to reports, Miramax acquired the rights to the film in June 2016, and director Kevin MacDonald is now preparing for its international release. On July 6th, the Whitney documentary will be released in the U.S as well as Ireland and the UK.
With the support of Houston’s estate, the film will include never-before-seen home movies, unreleased recordings, acapellas and much more. Between her controversial marriage and divorce from Bobby Brown, her substance abuse and tragic death, fans have always been intrigued with the New Jersey native’s life.
Lifetime told the late singer’s story in their Angela Bassett-directed Whitney biopic in 2015, and though it had mixed reviews and her family didn’t approve of it, 4.5 million viewers tuned in.
