COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (AP) -- Kyle Funkhouser, Eduardo Jimenez and Bryan Garcia combined for a shutout as the West Michigan Whitecaps beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 2-0 on Monday.
Funkhouser (4-1) went six scoreless innings, allowing six hits while striking out eight and walking three to pick up the win. J.D. Busfield (3-2) went six innings, allowing two runs and seven hits to take the tough loss in the Midwest League game. He also struck out three and walked two. Garcia retired the side in order for his ninth save of the season.
West Michigan scored its runs when Blaise Salter hit an RBI double in the first inning and Jacob Robson hit an RBI single in the fifth.
Bowling Green missed a scoring opportunity in the third, when Nathaniel Lowe grounded out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Danny Woodrow tripled and singled twice, scoring two runs in the win.
Lucius Fox doubled and singled twice for the Hot Rods. Bowling Green was held scoreless for the fourth time this season, while the West Michigan staff recorded its eighth shutout of the year.
