On Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham left his meeting with President and promptly called the border wall a metaphor.
“It’s just not about physical barriers. It’s about other things,” Graham told reporters.
He continued on: “The wall has become a metaphor for border security. And what we’re talking about is a physical barrier where it makes sense.”
As usual, Twitter had some thoughts.
Conservative Bill Kristol skewered Graham’s remarks.

The wall has become a metaphor for belligerent stupidity and casual cruelty.
“So build a metaphorical wall for free and then end the shutdown, you numpty,” Rewire News’ Imani Gandy wrote.

Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich noted, “No. It’s become a metaphor for a trumped-up solution to a trumped-up problem.”
Others also responded to Graham’s words, which came shortly before Trump tried to justify a physical border wall because the Obamas have a privacy wall around their house.

Graham might want to visit the Great Wall of China, which has been a metaphor for failed border security for the last 400 years. Says one China expert, the Great Wall "was always a symbol of futility, waste, cruelty, bad policy." "The wall has become a metaphor for border security.” - Lindsey Graham NOPE. The wall has become a metaphor for racism.

“Build the steel slats which are really just a metaphor for border security! And Mexico is going to indirectly pay for it via increased tax revenues from a new trade agreement which is not yet ratified, but in the meantime American taxpayers have to front the money! “

We’re going to build that metaphor, and Mexico is going to pay for it. With metaphorical money.

Excellent. I’m a professional writer and would be happy to sell Trump a metaphor (second-hand, but only lightly scuffed) for a bargain $1B — standard source credit, separate card, in main titles and paid ads. Call my agent!
