The man who was captured in terrifying footage clinging for life to a hang glider was interviewed by Shepard Smith on Fox News Tuesday.
The now viral video of Chris Gursky, an American on his first hang gliding flight in Switzerland, shows him dangling for four minutes after the pilot of his flight launched them off a 4,000-foot mountain — with Gursky’s harness not secured.
“One little important step was missed before takeoff,” Gursky told Smith.
“And what was that?” Smith asked.
“Hooking me to the actual glider,” Gursky replied.
As can be seen in the video, Gursky managed to grab the bar of the hang glider with one hand. With the other, he held onto the pilot’s pant leg. When said that when he hit the hit the ground, he was going around 45 miles per hour, and broke his wrist on the impact, requiring surgery.
“At one point I realized exactly what was going on, and I just glanced down,” Gursky said. “I said, this is it, I’m going to fall to my death.”
Gursky said he “tried to stay calm, and focus,” and hold on for as long as possible. Once he landed, the pilot ran up to him and urged him to remain calm.
