Daughter Skips Mom’s Funeral to Steal the Safe From Her House
Alyce Davenport was obviously not too broken up by her mother’s death
EAST BROOKFIELD, Massachusetts — A heartless daughter has been arrested for skipping her mother’s funeral to steal the safe from her house, police said.
Alyce Davenport, 30, is charged with enlisting the help of her pal Diron Conyers, 27, to break into her deceased mother’s Massachusetts home while the rest of the family was out at the funeral.
When relatives returned and found the safe containing $90,000 was missing, suspicion immediately fell on Davenport as she had recently been barred from coming to the house due to her drug use, the Worcester Telegram reported.
As Davenport was nowhere to be found and not answering her phone, cops alerted officers to be on the lookout for her. She and Conyers were pulled over soon after driving her mother’s car in Southbridge.
In the trunk, cops found the safe. They later went to a nearby motel where Davenport and Conyers had been staying where they found jewelry, keys, cellphones, real estate documents and a stolen checkbook.
A further search of the car turned up legal documents, $5,000 worth of coins, a bag of knives and more jewelry.
Police say Davenport is also a suspect in the theft of life insurance checks paid to her brother after their father’s death.
“Alyce also has a history of larceny, identity theft and forgery,” the police report stated.
Conyers has a lengthy rap sheet with charges of armed robbery.
Davenport was held on $15,000 bail and Conyers was held without bail because of a warrant elsewhere.
