Unfortunately, some of them have been fighting still even though the war was over.
Meet my grandfather, he had been an officer in the Red Army. As a speaker of German sometimes he had been a military negotiator, his task after the V-day was to negotiate the surrender of pockets with Germans that were unaware that the war has ended.
He had been wounded by a German paratrooper near Landsberg (currently the city is called Gorzów Wielkopolski) in June of 1945.
