Just outside Harare in Zimbabwe, the Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary is home to animals rescued from the wild, like hedgehogs, antelope, lions, primates, raptors, and reptiles. Twala also cares for some farm and domesticated animals. Sarah Carter and veterinarian
The goal of the Trust is to rehabilitate and return the animals to the wild, when possible. Zimbabwe is one of the world’s poorest countries. Each Wednesday, the sanctuary has a free community vet clinic for the dogs of the poor residents in the area.
Every dog that visits Twala gets a meal; the elderly dogs get food to take home. They feed approximately 300 dogs and neuter nearly 40 dogs per week. Fifty dogs get vaccinated, and numerous sick or injured dogs receive treatment weekly.
The sanctuary has several of their own rescue dogs, one, named Yoda had come to them suffering from neglect and malnutrition. She has recovered nicely but still has some physical signs of the mistreatment she endured. Some of the animals at Twala need more rehabilitation than others.
Animals of different species are often paired together so they can offer each other companionship and comfort. This video features Yoda and two rescue monkeys, Violet and Harvey. The napping monkey is Violet, Yoda seems to agree with Violet and wants to snuggle for some sleep. Keep an eye on Harvey – he isn’t interested in sleep!
Just wait Harvey, you will want to sleep later, and these two may want revenge! Share away, people.
