Now that big long-term cellphone contracts are a thing of the past, it’s never been easier to make changes to your cellphone account. You can make changes to your plan online or even through your carrier’s mobile app. Here are the steps you can take to change your plan with the major carriers.
AT&T
AT&T offers several cellphone plans to fit the varying needs of its customers. You must be the account owner or an authorized user to change your AT&T plan. To start the process, sign on to myAT&T on the mobile app or through your web browser. From here:
- Go to “Account overview.”
- Choose the account/number you want to make changes to.
- Select “Change” or “Manage My Plan.”
- Select the plan you want to change to.

Sprint
Account holders and authorized users can change their phone plans online. Once you are logged in to your My Sprint account take the following steps:
- Select “My Account.”
- Select “Change Plan.”

- Review the changes and click “Checkout.”

T-Mobile
You can change your T-Mobile plan through My T-Mobile online or on the T-Mobile app.
To change your plan online log into your account and:
- Click on “Account.”
- Click on your current plan.

To change your plan on the T-Mobile app:
- Select “Account.”
- Tap on “Plan and usage details.”
- Select “Manage my plan.”
- Click on the “Choose this plan” drop-down to see the different plans.
- Choose the plan you want and tap on “Select plan.”

Verizon
Verizon customers can switch plans fairly easily via My Verizon online or on the mobile app.
To change your plan online, sign in to your account and:
- Go to “My Plans.”
- Select the plan you want to change.
- Choose between unlimited plans and shared data plans and click “Explore Plans.”
- Choose a new plan and click “Select Plan.”
To change your plan on the Verizon app, open the app and sign on. Then take these steps:
- Tap on “Plans and Devices” from the pull-down menu.
- Select the plan you want to change.
- Answer the question(s) and select “Next.”
- Re-select the plan you want and tap “Change this plan.”
- Swipe to see details of various available plans.
- Find the plan you want and tap “Pick this plan.”
- Review the changes and confirm.
