NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The Latest on the officer involved shooting of a woman in Norfolk, Virginia (all times local):

Police in Virginia say an officer fatally shot a woman after she shot and wounded her husband at the scene of a car crash involving the couple.

Virginia State Police said in a statement Tuesday that 25-year-old India N. Nelson had been in a domestic dispute with her husband on Monday in Norfolk. At about 7 p.m., she and her husband were driving separate cars when they crashed into each other near a gate at Norfolk Naval Station.

After Norfolk police responded and began to investigate, state police said Nelson shot her husband. Authorities said a Norfolk police officer then "engaged the woman and returned fire."

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband was in critical condition. He has not been identified.

Police in Virginia say an officer fatally shot a woman who shot and wounded a man at the scene of a crash near a Naval base.

Norfolk police said in a statement that officers responded to a crash near a gate at Norfolk Naval Station on Monday night and while they were there, a woman shot a man. Police say an officer "engaged the woman and returned fire."

Police say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was in critical condition.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative duty. Virginia State Police are investigating. Officials haven't released the names of the officers involved or of the woman who was shot.

Norfolk police spokeswoman Jo Ann Hughes said the department doesn't release the races of officers or victims.

She added that Norfolk patrol officers typically wear body cameras, although it's unknown if they captured the incident. She said such footage would be turned over to state police for their investigation.
