In a live video titled “Aloe Vera Feast,” 26-year-old health and wellness blogger, known to her followers as Ms. Zhang, indulged in two large green stalks of agave Americana, which is a toxic ornamental plant. While the plant bears a striking resemblance to the beneficial aloe vera, it’s far from being related to it in the genus.
The live stream showed Zhang happily biting into the plant until her reaction did a quick 180. During the video, she describes the plant tasting unusually “bitter” and then noted that her mouth started to feel numb before concerningly expressing that her throat was experiencing a burning sensation.
Zhang abruptly put an end to the live stream and immediately headed to a nearby hospital. By the time she arrived, the health blogger had already begun developing severe burns and sores in her mouth and throat. Doctors proceeded to pump her stomach to remove all traces of the toxic plant
