EDITOR: I sympathize with Christopher Lee who clearly and lucidly details the supposed profiling of his black children by the local police in his letter of Thursday, June 15. However, I cannot believe there is not more to the story than he divulges. His children must be partially at fault for the multiple stoppings by the local police.
He notes that his boys have been stopped 24 times by the police. I cannot claim personally to be a saint while driving but, in 55 years of residence and driving in Somerset Hills, I have been stopped - and warned - only three times. I also raised four children here and do not know that they were ever stopped for violations.
Yes, I am a white adult, not a black teenager. But I cannot believe there has been such a differential in detention without some provocation on the part of Mr. Lee’s boys.
