EMBL is looking for a Project Officer to support the project lead in the high-quality, timely, and cost-effective delivery of the tender & implementation of a visitor centre, located on the campus of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany. The visitor centre will highlight the importance of curiosity based fundamental research, allowing the public to get insights into molecular biology and the power of imaging technologies and as well as how the research done at EMBL affects everyday life.

You will be a member of the Engagement Team within the EMBL Communications Department reporting directly to the project lead. This role is based in Heidelberg, Germany and you will be expected to start on 23 March 2020.

Your role

  • Work on tender (for technical design and build) and implementation of our visitor centre
  • prepare RFT in close collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • prepare for submissions, presentations and evaluations of tender proposals
  • identify and liaise with external contractors
  • liaise and coordinate with internal stakeholders on project requirements
  • plan and track overall project schedule & budget
  • gather requirements and manage expectations
  • administer routine (stakeholder) reporting and updates on the progress of the project
  • administrative planning and organisation support

You have

  • Extensive project management experience with proven track record in exhibition and visitor centre projects
  • extensive knowledge of design and implementation of visitor centres in a European context
  • strong knowledge of construction details, methodology, building and regulatory standards
  • a track record of successfully delivering large, complex projects
  • experience of managing third-party contractors
  • strong financial management, analytical and project planning skills
  • ability to work effectively under tight schedules and deadlines
  • excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across a large organisation
  • a good command of spoken and written English and German are necessary

  • Experience in a research environment, or in communications or agency environments
  • experience working with Agile processes
  • experience working in an international environment
