A leading blood cancer charity have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lab Manager to join its London HQ on a 12 month contract. You will ensure the smooth running of the lab and ensure it continues to meet the relevant accreditation requirements. You will have strong business administration experience and keen leadership skills. You must also have a scientific degree with a strong working knowledge of ELISA, including the ability to troubleshoot.
Job Profile:

Key Responsibilities
These include but are not limited to:
- Build proactive and constructive relationships with key stakeholders including suppliers, customers and collaborators
- Ensure an efficient output of the Laboratory Services Team which requires leadership of a large team with varied skill set
- Promote collaboration and coordination of service to reflect the organisational requirements
- Develop and lead an effective, proactive, functional team to provide a quality service in response to the needs of the laboratory
- Ensure the housekeeping of the laboratory to provide a safe and effective working environment
- Maintain appropriate SLAs and maintenance contracts with suppliers, including ensuring all assets are managed effectively with review of their performance and suitability
- Establish and manage effective performance indicators and systems for monitoring and evaluating delivery of our service in relation to our strategy
- Provide reports of service and delivery with regular analysis of impact and progression
- Regularly review the effectiveness of service, providing suggestions for improvements and opportunities to enable a more productive laboratory
- Represent the company in operational and business related matters
- Investigate ways to improve effectiveness, including new opportunities, and anticipate any resulting risks
- Effectively manage risks to the service and make informed decisions to ensure the best outcome
- Working within accreditation body standards, ensure that quality and competency are fully integrated into the team
- Construct and manage a large budget with regular re-forecasting to support business planning
- Contribute to the forecast and planning of new business opportunities
- Provide specialist technical knowledge to support the management of contracts and generation of service level agreements with our customers
- Ensure effective collaboration with other Divisional Team Managers within Labs and provide support for them as required
- Collaborate with the wider organisation to develop and implement strategies
- Actively participate in management meetings and foster excellent working relationships across the organisation, promoting collaboration where appropriate
- Adhere to all local health and safety policies and procedures, keeping an up to date knowledge of the area and reporting any issues
- Actively take part in training and review of own competency requirements ensuring appropriate documentation for technical competency reviews and keeping up to date with relevant processes.
- Support the review of colleagues training and authorise their competency assessments
- Provide support to colleagues as required and in relation to the standard duties
- Provide specialist support to the Director and perform any other appropriate duties as requested by them
Experience Required:
- Degree in a biomolecular science subject
- Demonstrable experience of laboratory management processes
- Experience of working in an accredited laboratory with knowledge of associated quality requirements
- Experience of stock management systems and requirements
- A proven leader with the ability to inspire, empower and motivate others
- Experience in driving process improvement
- Experience of managing budgets
- Demonstrable understanding of excellent customer service and how it impacts the business.
- Experience of successful service delivery in a laboratory setting
- Experience of setting and delivering to targets
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working in a semi automated laboratory
- Substantial knowledge and experience of ELISA techniques
- Excellent IT skills and working knowledge of MS-Office
