IT Services operates and supports the IT infrastructure and services at EMBL headquarters in Heidelberg and for the laboratory’s sites in Barcelona and Rome. As part of IT Services, the Desktop Support Team provides a broad range of first level and desktop support to the EMBL user community. In addition, the team is also responsible for managing a number of key Windows backend services. They also have a critical role supporting the EMBL training mission by coordinating and administering installations for training courses in the Computer Lab at the EMBL Advance Training Centre. We are looking for a highly motivated Technical Manager on a dual role as Desktop Support Team lead with additional operational responsibilities.
Your role
Will include the following responsibilities:
- to provide excellent support to our internal users together with your team and across a portfolio of supported Mac, Windows, Linux desktop and mobile devices including a complementary Windows server infrastructure
- to unify and automate the IT support process, delivery and infrastructure across the supported platforms
- to continuously improve the EMBL desktop/mobile computing integration with the laboratory’s high-performance IT infrastructure and services
- to develop and manage EMBL’s Windows backend including Active Directory, Exchange, enterprise databases, Windows security and others
- to develop and manage EMBL’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
You have
- at least 3 years working experience in a professional IT support organization preferably with a background in supporting large heterogeneous IT infrastructures with hundreds of users
- previous professional experience and extensive knowledge of managing Windows in a corporate environment including central user management, system/software deployment or mail server administration
- a broad overview about relevant IT technologies to manage, monitor and secure a large heterogeneous IT environment as well as an analytic approach to solve problems
- appropriate communication skills and an analytic approach to efficiently support our internal user base
You might also have
- a background in systems management, deployment, automation and integration across a heterogeneous enterprise IT landscape
- previous managerial responsibility and project management experience
