CY Partners are currently looking to recruit a Process R&D Chemist on behalf of a growing chemicals manufacturer at their site in Sunderland. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fantastic organisation in a Senior Research position.
The main duties of this role are:
- To develop safe, cost-effective processes for compounds, scaling them up through laboratory, pilot plant and onto full-scale production and providing the necessary technical support to ensure the success of those activities. These processes may be distillation or reactive chemistry
- To assist in continually improving the viability of existing products by improving processing efficiencies through yield improvement, cycle-time reduction and waste minimisation in all its forms
- To supply a technical service to customer enquiries and problems
- To maintain current awareness and keep abreast of the latest scientific and technological developments relevant to the business and make use of that knowledge to continually improve and optimise the profitability of the products manufactured by the Company
- Provide technical assistance during plant and laboratory trials including the flexibility to provide technical support outside of normal hours as necessary
- Work collaboratively with other company locations which will include travel both within the UK and abroad
- Use tools and resources which are available, e.g. SciFinder, to determine the most viable synthetic routes for new processes
- Develop plant fits for new processes based on processes developed within the Company’s laboratories or based on technical information supplied by our customers
- Assist in the development of analytical methods in support of the business
- Prepare regular written reports covering work undertaken
Candidates wishing to apply should meet the following criteria:
- PhD or equivalent in a relevant Chemistry field
- Experience of Scale up from Laboratory to Pilot Plant and full-scale Production
- Experience of carrying out HPLC, GC, GC-MS and NMR analysis
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ideally, cGMP standards
- Project Management experience and use of Six Sigma tools and techniques or similar would be an advantage
