Project Research Scientist

New Scientist

An exciting opportunity to be part of a pioneering biomedical research institute, dedicated to innovation and science. A project research scientist post in the laboratory of Prof. Markus Ralser at the Crick and the laboratory of Dr. Samuel Marguerat at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences and Imperial College is now available. The laboratories are renowned for their work on metabolism (Ralser lab), and gene expression regulation (Marguerat lab) We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to address the biological basis of single-cell heterogeneity, using single cell eukaryotes as a model system. The jobholder will work with members of the Ralser and Marguerat labs to adapt droplet based single-cell transcriptomic methods to detect metabolic differences between yeast cells. Then, the models will be exposed to a range of extrinsic and intrinsic perturbations, as well as manipulated genetically, to derive metabolic mechanisms driving single-cell diversity.

For more information about this research, please visit the external lab website: http://ralserlab.crick.ac.uk and https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/research-group/quantitative-gene-expression/. The successful applicant will have good communication and organisational skills and a PhD in a relevant area (or be in the final stages of completion). Key technical skills include the ability to work in a molecular biology and systems biology laboratory, the necessary rigour to take on a single-cell project, the ability to work independently between two laboratories, and an affinity for biological data (i.e. single-cell transcriptomes and metabolomes) that will be created and will be analysed as part of this project.
